1 Aldrich, Mildred. On the Edge of the War Zone: From the Battle of the Marne to the Entrance of the Stars and Stripes.
Boston. Small, Maynard and Company. 1917. First Edition. Hardcover in decorated green cloth boards with titles in gilt. Very good. No dust jacket. Rubbing to extremities. Front panel bright. Spine faded. Front free endpaper removed. Small book plate on front pastedown. Former owner's signature dated Nov. 13, 1917 on verso of frontis. Tissued photo of the author, reproduced in photogravure frontis. Plus 12 photo illustrations and map rear endpapers. The author's second collection of wartime letters. Aldrich was raised in Boston and wrote for several Boston newspapers. In 1898 she moved to France working as a foreign correspondent and translator. While there, she became a friend of Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas. She was eye witness to much of World War I from her home outside Paris. Her home in Huiry overlooked the Marne river valley.
