Canning's third mystery novel. While Roger Quain escorts two zoo-bound black panthers on the train from Milan to Paris the train derails and the panthers escape in the Swiss Alps. And he has been persuaded by a western agent to hide microfilm in one the panther's collar. The chase is on to beat enemy agents in finding the animals. The basis for the 1950 Universal International film directed by George Sherman.
